SPOKANE--Animal control officers say more than 40 animals were taken from a Hillyard area home Wednesday.

The home is located on the 3600 block of E. Crown.

Officials say there are more than 40 dogs and cats in the home.

The woman who lives at the home off East Crown couldn't tell us exactly how many dogs and cats she had, but she says she had tried to get rid of some.

At least nine cages with cats were found inside the home according to Spokaninal. Animal protection officers found other cats living outside packed in a pen.

Officers also removed several big and little dogs.

Spokaninmal says there were 21 dogs and 28 cats, most of which lived in Marsha Dodd's small home.

Dodd says some of her dogs had puppies and that’s how she got so many.  She says she found the cats living under storage containers near her home.

Dodd says several months ago she tried to turn them into Spokanimal.

Spokanimal tells us Dodd never actually brought in the cats.  Officials say the shelter was full at time and they offered Dodd suggestions to find homes.

Spokanimal tells us at no time did Dodd tell officers the condition the animals lived in until they received complaints.

She faces possible animal cruelty and neglect charges.
