KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho --  Kootenai County Sheriff and Idaho State Police said they arrested a suspect in connection to a bank robbery Friday afternoon.

Officials said the Bank of Fairfield in Fairfield, Washington was robbed around 1:35 p.m. They have arrested Brian Sheldon, 39, who was believe to be involved.

Coeur d'Alene Police said around 2:30 p.m. they helped Kootenai County Sheriff's during a pursuit on Highway 95 and I-90. Deputies said Sheldo was armed with a semi-automatic handgun.

Sheldon took the Sherman exit and continued at a high rate of speed through the downtown area. Officers said they stopped the pursuit due to the Sheldon's speed and saw the suspect's car at 2nd and Lakeside. 

Officials say Sheldon was travelling toward a school zone on 15th causing Canfield Middle School, Hayden Meadows, Dalton Elementary School and Coeur d'Alene Bible Church to go into lockdown. 

Two detectives later located Sheldon's car in an apartment complex on Shiloh Loop in Hayden, Idaho and watched him get out of the car and walk away.

Sheldon was ordered to the ground and was taken into custody.

Authorities said he was armed with a handgun and there was a large amount of cash in his pockets.

Sheldon was charged with felony eluding and felon in possession of a firearm.

The Spokane County Sheriff's Department is investigating the bank robbery.
