SPOKANE, Wash. -- A run planned for Monday night in Spokane will honor the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. Organizers asked runners to meet at 6:30 p.m. near the "Joy of Running" statues in Riverfront Park.
The Solidarity for Boston Run will take runners approximately 2.62, with that number being symbolic of the distance of a marathon.
The Independent Running Retailers Association helped organize the run. Similar runs will happen across the country at the same time. Organizers hope that a combined 900 runners come together across the U.S.
Several Spokane running groups plan to attend the evening run. Those groups include the Flying Irish Running Club, Bloomsday Road Runners Club, Spokane Distance Project, Fleet Feet Spokane, and Runners Soul Spokane.
