SPOKANE VALLEY--Rescue crews located the body  of a man who went under in the Spokane River Monday evening.

The man's body was located near Flora Trailhead just before 11:30 a.m in Spokane Valley.

The 21-year-old man was floating, along with a small group of people, on an inner tube without a life-jacket.  Around 7:00 p.m. an experienced kayaker nearby saw the man go under near the Flora trailhead.

Rescue crews were dispatched and begin their search around 7:10 p.m.  A helicopter was requested but couldn’t fly because of lightning.

Rescuers stretched along both sides of the river from the Barker exit all the way to Pines. They ended up only finding a tube and an oar.

The rescue efforts were called off at 8:10 p.m. Monday because of severe weather and winds.

Crews resumed search Tuesday using the Spokane Valley helicopter.

The identity of the man has not been released.
