SPOKANE -- The American Red Cross Inland Northwest Chapter is sending volunteers to the Republic area to help out in the aftermath of last week’s destructive storms.
At least six volunteers will open a shelter at Republic High School. Volunteers will also provide mental health services and do disaster assessments.
Severe storms blew through the area Friday afternoon, damaging houses, roads, and snapping trees and power poles.
Power is still out to hundreds in the area. Emergency management officials say it could still be several days before electricity is restored to everyone.
All disaster services delivered by the American Red Cross are provided at no charge to disaster victims.
Tax-free donations can be made through their secure web site at www.RedCross.org
