SPOKANE VALLEY-- Crews are battled an apartment fire in Spokane Valley at 9117 East 6th near Farr.

Officials say tenants did not know their building was on fire. Residents were safety evacuated prior to the firefighting efforts.
The fire’s origin was on a top floor exterior deck. It burned up the side of the building and into the attic. 32 firefighters in 8 apparatus were able to contain the fire to the attic area.
The fire damaged the roof trusses, and exterior siding of the building. There was no fire damage to the upper floor unit’s however, the ceiling had to be pulled down which allowed insulation and some smoke into the top units.
The Red Cross was assisting the residents of the 2 upper floor units with their needs for the night. Other residents will be able to return to their units once the building is deemed safe. There were no injuries to residents or the firefighters.
Red Cross officials say 4 adults and one baby were impacted.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage values to the roof structure are not available at the time of this release.
