SPOKANE, Wash.-- Road crews wrapped-up work nearly a week ahead of schedule Friday morning and reopened Ray Street to traffic on the South Hill in Spokane.

Crews closed both lanes of Ray street between 20th and 21st Avenue and diverted traffic to Freya Street while they connected a new 1-million-gallon tank to the existing sewer line.

The City of Spokane said the goal of the project was to reduce overflow from the combined sanitary and stormwater waste system. Crews initially expected the project would take about 14 business days to complete.
