SPOKANE-- Pullman police tracked down a Spokane carjacking suspect early Sunday morning.
It started around 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the Grocery Outlet parking lot at Third and Maple.
A victim told Spokane police he was standing next to his running car when a man approached him. Damon Williams, 45, allegedly drug the victim away from the car, jumped inside and tried to flee.
Williams drove away as the victim held on to the car. The suspect then hit a light pole, which knocked the car owner to the ground and allowed Williams to escape.
Just after 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning, Pullman officers found the suspect in the victim’s car when they stopped him for a possible DUI. When they realized the car was stolen, police took Williams into custody and called the Spokane Police Department.
Pullman police returned the suspect to Spokane, where he was booked into the Spokane County Jail for 1st Degree Robbery and Theft of a Motor Vehicle.
