SPOKANE, Wash. -- Police said Wednesday they had arrested a “prolific” thief for a burglary in the Hillyard neighborhood.
Authorities said Burnell Doering, 50, was arrested for 2nd Degree Burglary and Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle.
Tuesday evening, Spokane Police responded to a burglary in progress on the 3500 block of N. Market St. The owners of the business called in saying they were watching the business being burglarized via security cameras from their residence. Officers responded minutes later and reportedly found Doering inside a fenced area at the back of the business. Police said he cut through a fence and had entered several outbuildings to remove property. Officers took Doering into custody without incident in connection to the burglary.
As part of their investigation, officers located a stolen truck parked across the street. Officers were able to determine the vehicle had been reported stolen Jan. 27. Authorities found Doering’s wallet on the seat of the vehicle.
Doering’s criminal history includes nine felony convictions for Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2nd Degree Theft, 2nd Degree Possession of Stolen Property, Attempt to Elude, 2nd Degree Burglary, 1st Degree Escape, 2nd Degree Robbery, and 1st Degree Theft.
Doering was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday afternoon.
