SPOKANE, Wash. - Almost 7,100 teams competed in Hoopfest 2013. Some were filled with serious players, others with participants just wanting to have fun. Then there were these guys.
Among the teams in costumes, a group dressed as the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers drew quite the crowd all weekend. Maybe it was the team’s special superpowers that caught people’s eye.
“We jump higher, squat lower, stretch our arms out higher, it definitely gives us some super powers,” joked Alex Bray, the “Blue Ranger.”
Players on opposing teams thought Team Mighty Morphin were no joke, however.
“It was pretty tough - not going to lie,” said opposing player Zach Pittman. “They have a lot of fun out there.”
Team Mighty Morphin finished the tournament with no wins and three losses. They were not too bothered by the results. “Red Ranger” Mitchell Weller said they usually try to lose the first two games on purpose every year.
“Everyone needs a hero. Sometimes 13th place just happens to be, uh, what people love and shoot for and that's us.”
