COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho--Cœur d’Alene police Wednesday said a van and its occupants thought to have been connected to a suspected child enticing were no longer of interest in the case. Police originally took the report of the suspected child enticing around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The announcement was made after officers interviewed the van's occupants.
On Saturday, police said a caller reported a man had been hanging out around the area of her house and thought the suspect might be enticing her son. The woman lives near W. Fairway Drive and W. Masters Drive.
The woman said she noticed a white van parked near her home.
Police said the woman told them she watched the man walk on her property on May 12 and ask her 3-year-old son to come to his van and help him with his dog. Police added the woman said she confronted the man and he walked back towards his car. The man told her he needed a jump-start and she told him to leave her property, according to police.
The witness said she noticed the white van again on May 17 with the same male driver parked near her property. According to Police, the woman said this time her 7-year-old and five year-old sons were also outside with her three year-old son. She said that she walked to the van and spoke to the male, according to police.
Officials said the woman confronted the man on his actions and asked why he was in the area. The man told her that he came to the area to tie his dogs, according to police. Officials added the woman said she warned the man that she was going to call the police. The man replied that he just got out of jail and he did not want her to call, police said. The woman told police the man then left the area.
Officers followed up on the license plate of the vehicle and determined the registered owner was not in possession of the van.
The suspicious person was described as a white man in his 40s with long brown hair, approximately 5’6” and around 110 pounds, wearing a blue baseball cap, white t-shirt and gray jeans.
