SPOKANE -- Police arrested a person in connection with a drive-by shooting in North Spokane Wednesday night.

Police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Dutch Jake Park at 2200 West Broadway just before 8:30 p.m.  Initial reports were that witnesses heard what they believed to be about five gunshots and saw people running through alleys at that location.  A witness did get a description of the black Pontiac.

An officer located the vehicle going northbound on Post at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle failed to stop for police and failed to make a left turn onto Stevens from Queen.  It slid into a yard and hit a tree.  Both the driver and a passenger immediately ran from the vehicle.

The driver Ricky Leon, 32, was found walking east on Rowan at Washington and was taken into custody.  Officers identified him as the driver of the Pontiac.  A K9 and Spokane County Air 1 could not find the passenger.

A victim with a gunshot wound to his leg did arrive at a hospital.  It was determined that the victim at the hospital and the drive-by shooting were related.

Leon was booked into the Spokane County Jail for 1st degree assault.
