SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- A driver going about 100 mph nearly struck a deputy’s car head-on during a police pursuit through Spokane Valley.
A different deputy first noticed the suspect, 27-year-old Daniel Wessels, driving recklessly around 11:30 p.m. near Broadway and Dyer.
Police lost sight of Wessels’ car until it nearly struck the deputy’s vehicle at Park and Sprague, and he then sped away again. Police say Wessels blew through multiple traffic signs until making his way onto the westbound lanes of I-90. Police lost track of him when he exited the interstate.
Spokane County’s Air 1 joined the search and finally found Wessels’ car, which had crashed through a fence near Thor and 2nd, drove into an embankment, made it back onto I-90 and crashed into another car.
Wessels fled on foot, but a K-9 unit found him a short time later. He was booked into the Spokane County Jail for felony eluding, DUI, first-degree driving with a suspended license and hit-and-run.
The driver of the car Wessels reportedly hit was also charged with DUI.
