LIBERTY LAKE, Wash.--Freezing temperatures caused problems for people in some apartment complexes. Several pipes broke at First Liberty Lake Apartments. Some units were even flooded.
One woman said she has been drying her apartment out for almost a week. Sarah Carpenter has had several fans and her heater turned up since last Wednesday.
Carpenter said the sprinkler system on her roof burst which caused water to pour into her closet, living room and kitchen.
The apartment manager said there were several other units that were flooded over the weekend.
Neighbors said water pipes that were broken in some units leaked into others. The people living in the building are in hotels.
"Thank God I have renters insurance, because I don't think I could come back from this," said Carpenter.
Maintenance crews are helping people dry out their apartments.
Apartment managers also sent tips to to renters on how to keep their pipes from freezing.
Carpenter said she still wound up with a mess even though she followed all of the advice.
"It happens if you don't take precautions. And sometimes when you do, things happen," said Carpenter.
Carpenter said luckily the renters do not have to pay for the damage. There is no word on when they can return home.
