PINEHURST, ID. -- Idaho officials are investigating whether an officer in Pinehurst should be stripped of his law enforcement responsibilities.
Mike Gunderson is a reserve police officer for the Pinehurst Police Department. In 2003, Gunderson was a Captain with the Shoshone County Sheriff's Department. He resigned after allegations of a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old girl surfaced. Gunderson was never charged with a crime.
Monday, Pinehurst's Police Chief, Rocky Wilson, says he was notified by Idaho's POST Academy (Police Officer Standards and Training) that they will investigate whether Gunderson will be allowed to continue as an officer.
Shoshone County Sheriff Mitch Alexander recently told KREM 2 News he refused to cross-deputize Gunderson to work on Sheriff's Department matters because of the incident, and that he did not think Gunderson should be in law enforcement.
Wilson told KREM 2 News he believes Gunderson is a good officer, and reiterated that Gunderson was cleared of wrongdoing six years ago.
