SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- A man accused of shooting another man in the face in Spokane Valley was arrested early Friday.

The shooting happened near South Conifer and East Cimmaron Drive at 7:00 p.m.Thursday. Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Deputies and Major Crimes Detectives continued to investigate the incident throughout the night.

The investigation led deputies to the area of Horizon Hills and 40th Avenue around 2:30 a.m.  Deputies found the suspect, John Payne, 60, in a wooded area near South Dishman Mica and South Bowdish Roads.  Payne was arrested without incident.

According to investigators, the adult woman homeowner said Payne came to her home and shot her adult male friend in the face.  Deputies arrived to find the victim alert and conscious with a gunshot wound to the chin.  He was able to walk out of the home under his own power and was transported to a local hospital.  The victim’s injuries were serious but did not appear to be life threatening.

During Payne’s arrest, deputies said they found a weapon.  He faces First Degree Attempted Murder charges.
