WORLEY, Idaho -- Conkling Marina on Southern Lake Coeur d’Alene has new owners, in a way.
The popular summer spot was in financial trouble when it went up for auction. The marina went into foreclosure last June. Since then, the owners who originally sold the marina have fought to get it back. Now they have it again.
It took less than five minutes at auction for Conkling Marina’s former owners to reacquire the property. Father and son Tim and Tom Kirkpatrick bid $2.4 million, and now it’s theirs once again.
“It’s such a relief,” Tim said.
The duo’s bid was the only one on the property near Worley, Idaho.
The Kirkpatricks owned the marina from 2002 to2007. It sold for $5 million. Tom says the last time he got a payment for it was last April. He foreclosed in June.
“The heartache to get to this point was something treacherous,” he said.
That heartache is now gone.
Conkling is expected to reopen April 1 with people’s deposits and payments safely in tact. It’s now one of the few privately operated marinas on Lake Coeur d’Alene.
