SPOKANE -- A gruesome hit and run death in north Spokane remains unsolved one year later. Now Susette Werner's mother hopes any new details could catch the driver who dragged her daughter before speeding off.
The deadly hit and run investigation remains unsolved for Werner's family. The 42 year old woman was found lying dead in the street in northwest Spokane exactly one year ago while walking home from a bar.
A memorial has been at the corner of Ash and Maxwell since the day Werner body's was found several feet away. Her mother hopes it serves to keep Werner's death in the public's thoughts.
"Somebody is out there that saw something while she was dragged that mile or know something that would tell the police, that would help them out," said Werner's mother Vicky Littell.
That's Littell's daily hope and prayer. That's the only way Littell feels she will find closure to her daughter's horrific death.
"It's been a tough year. I'm glad it's almost over," said Littell.
Police say early Sunday morning on February 8, Werner was walking from home after leaving a local bar. Two blocks away from her place, a vehicle hit her at the intersection at Cedar and Carlise. Werner's body got caught under the vehicle and dragged through the streets of north Spokane for at least 15 blocks. Her body was found lying in the middle of the street near Maxwell and Ash.
In the days following, police released video of a possible suspect video. But Littell says detectives have told her they have now ruled it out. That, along with a tip of a vehicle seen backing up to Werner's body and then driving away. The person apparently recanted their story.
Littell has kept up her daughter's memorial, changing it with the holidays. Each time, Littell says she feels her "Susie" near.
"I just tell her that, you got to help me solve this, you got to help us solve this," said Littell.
