SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -- The attorney for a Spokane police officer charged with using unreasonable force in the death of a mentally disabled man wants the upcoming federal trial moved.
According to other media outlets, Attorney Carl Oreskovich contends there has been so much media coverage of the case that Officer Karl F. Thompson Jr. cannot get a fair trial.
Thompson is charged with using unreasonable force and lying to investigators fol
lowing the 2006 confrontation with Otto Zehm at a convenience store. Thompson entered the store and used a baton to strike Zehm, who was holding a 2-liter soda bottle.
Trial is set to begin Oct. 12.
