OKANOGAN, WA. -- Officials report the Oden Road Wildfire near Okanogan is 90% contained, and no longer a threat to homes in the area.
The fire is now sized at 9,607 acres, down from Wednesday's acreage of 10,258. Firefighters say that is due to accurate mapping of the fire using GPS. However, more than 500 firefighters continue to work to put out the fire.
The fire started on August 21 by a lightning strike.
Officials reportt here are no longer any evacuation alerts in the fire area. The fire situation no longer poses a risk to residents near the fire.
Forecasters say thundershowers are expected in the area Friday evening.
