SPOKANE-- A North Spokane man remains in critical condition Sunday after a freak accident that almost took his life.
Ryan Curtis' family members say he has been cutting down trees for many years. He says it’s a dangerous job and he has been injured at work in the past, but never like this.
Family members say he was helping pull a log up a hill for tree removal last Wednesday when a rope snapped and hit him across the neck and chest.
Ryan’s mother in-law says one of Ryan’s co-workers and best friends came over and told them Ryan was dead. But they later learned Ryan was alive and in surgery.
Ryan is still in the intensive care unit of a local hospital and his family says they see slight progress with each day.
Family members say he was injured on the last day of the season. He was scheduled to appear at a hearing settlement for his last injury the next day. They say they are unsure how they will be able to support themselves through the month.
