BAYVIEW, Idaho -- Homeowners in Bayview, Idaho say they are going to keep fighting a shooting range in Farragut State Park.  Those owners say bullets were hitting their homes.  Idaho Fish and Game revamped the range but homeowners say it is still not safe.

The fight has been going on for years.  Even after a half million dollars in improvements, homeowners say it is still not enough.  The Farragut shooting range has been empty since 2007 when neighbors won a lawsuit against Idaho Game and Fish.  They said the bullets hit their houses.  The judge agreed and said Fish and Game had to make it safer.

What they came up with is a range designed to reduce noise.  It is a range where shooters cannot see the sky and shoot over the hills.  Idaho Fish and Game installed brand new shooting benches, wood and steel buffers, and new backstops.

Harvey Richman is the lawyer for the shooting range neighbors.  He has been to the new range and says it is still not safe enough.  He wants the entire shooting range redesigned.  And neighbors are not letting it go until it is changed.

A judge gets the final say.  But no matter what the judge decides, both sides can appeal.  The range could stay quiet for a long time.

I probably agree with the last statement, but what do Californians have to do with the shooting range?

This is so very typical of the last 15 years around here. Dum A zz californians come here to North Idaho and try to buy out our way of life and change everything. We were doing very good till they came, raise the price of everything and in general ruined a great way of life for too many people. We have seen an increase in crime, frivolous law suits and rude people. They build houses and they try to change everything around them to suit them. We have seen it everywhere in the area.

Can somebody provide a list of all the people who were shot while driving down that road by the shhoting range. Also how does anybody know for sure how the alleged holes got in the houses? Just wondering.

I guess what some people dont seem to understand is that not only are the private residences at risk, there is a public road that passes behind the shooting range. And that road was there WAY before the shooting range was. Dont the people driving down that road have a right to a certain amount of safety? People that drive up in the hills are at risk, and those roads were there WAY before the shooting range was. Young kids ride their bikes down that road, lots of people use that road, they need to be protected. Or I guess we could just ask everybody involved to give up their homes and safety and close the road so a few people can shoot. Easy to say when your not the one involved.

regardless of who was their first the people own the property and should not have to worry about getting shot. I got a perfect solution, get your guns, drive 25 miles south and shoot at the Hayden creek range for free!!

It's remarkable how much money Idaho Fish and Game is wasting on this project. But I guess when you have people like Chip Corsi and Dave Leptich running the show, this is what you get. All this money is being spent on a shooting range that will be limited to 500 shooters a year. What a waste. The site will have to be manned anytime they are open, so they will have to pay that fee also. Maybe Leptich can come back to Bayview for another one of his meetings, like the last one where all he did was arrogantly tell people what Fish and Game was gonna do. I sure wish my fishing and hunting license money went to more responsible individuals.
