SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Spokane Fire Department was the victim of thieves Wednesday night.
Thousands of dollars worth of mountain bikes were stolen from Station 15 on East Wellsely in Hillyard.
Authorities said 9 bikes were stolen from a trailer that was in a locked, fenced in area.
The bikes are used for large crowd events like Hoopfest, Bloomsday and the Coleman Run. The bikes hold medical supplies and help medics maneuver around crowds much easier.
The bikes are 15-years-old but replacing them will be expensive.
“The amount has surpassed the amount it would be for a felony but I think that’s a pretty low threshold if we were to go out and buy new bikes, it could cost anywhere from 500-1,000 per bike, pack and medical gear. It could be a $10,000 proposition before the days over,” said Spokane Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief, Brian Shaffer.
The bikes have an area in the back where medical gear is stored and they are black in color.
Spokane Police are investigating the crime. If you know anything about the crime you are asked to call Spokane Police and the Spokane Fire Department.
