NINE MILE FALLS, Wash.--A local man was getting worldwide recognition for his one of a kind art style in April. A carpenter from Nine Mile Falls was honored for his wood floor designs.
Tom Ourada sees floors as a work of art.

"I do floors that are themed, I guess,” said Ourada.

Ourada does not use traditional wood.

"I've figured out how to cut curved logs. And it really distinguishes one floor to the next if you see something curved in it versus straight wood. You can do an infinite amount of things with it.  Interest wise, it's invaluable,” said Ourada.

He creates the work at his home. He earned top honors from the National Wood Flooring Association in April at their trade show in Nashville for three of his floors.

"Oh, it was great. I didn't realize how distinguished the award was,” said Ourada.

Ourada said he was the only person to use the untraditional types of logs.

"There was some beautiful stuff there, but again none with curved logs,” said Ourada.
