SPOKANE -- Construction is expected to wrap up early next year on a new 46,000 square foot storage and maintenance facility at Spokane International Airport.
The $7.5 million dollar building will house snow removal vehicles and equipment used to clear runways, taxiways, and airfield aircraft parking aprons.
The new garage is the process of being built on the north side of the Airport’s existing equipment maintenance building. The completed facility will include of a vehicle storage area, a maintenance/support area, a wash-bay, a loading dock, de-icing chemical storage and a conveying system.
Construction started in July. The facility is slated to be finished in the first quarter of 2013.
The building is funded with a $4.50 user fee paid by every passenger who departs from Spokane International Airport. No Spokane City of Spokane County funds were used on the project.
The contract was awarded to Lydig Construction, Inc. of Spokane.
