COEUR D’ALENE—Idaho State lawmakers could adopt new legislation to protect passengers when they ride with a tow-truck driver.

Legislators are considering making drivers pass a felony background check before they can work for the Idaho State Police.  Right now ISP only requires an Idaho State background check.

The bill would allow the agency to check a driver’s criminal record in any state.

If a driver’s criminal background isn’t safe enough for the ISP they will no longer be used.

Legislators are scheduled to discuss the law later this month.
