SPOKANE, Wash. -- Attacks like the one this week and Sharlotte McGill’s murder made people wary of walking along the Centennial Trail.

KREM 2 spent Friday afternoon talking to local bikers, walkers and runners on that trail. All of them describe the incidents as shocking and terrifying.

Some even say they began carrying weapons like pepper spray since McGill’s murder.

After this last attack, walkers KREM 2 talked to say they plan to avoid this area-- for now, at least.

“I would not go alone, especially now after learning all of this. I was leery before because there have been attacks, but now I’d absolutely never go alone,” Karen Rimpler said.

Centennial Trial visitors say they feel even more afraid because these attacks happened in broad daylight.

The fear isn’t just among women, either. Some men said Friday they, too, will take their workouts somewhere else.
