SPOKANE, Wash.-- One big connection between the suspect in this week’s Centennial Trail attack and the Sharlotte McGill murder is their homes.

Both Avondre Graham and McGill lived in the same apartment complex. Neighbors say police kicked down the door where Graham’s family lived Thursday.

The family next door to the Grahams says the news of his arrest shocked them. They describe Avondre as kind and say they frequently let him in their home. Another family said they never thought he could be involved in something like this.

Some neighbors who spoke to KREM 2 say they’re feeling a sense of relief now that McGill’s case could be solved.

“Definitely relief, if he is the one that did the murder, that I’m definitely glad they caught him. That’s one less worry,” neighbor Katrina Granstorm said.

Others say they feel just as afraid as they did when McGill was killed and they will continue to be cautious. One described Avondre as strangely quiet and an “odd kid.”

KREM 2 knocked on the Grahams’ door. No one answered. Neighbors say the family’s car has been gone for the majority of the day.
