SPOKANE-- Road construction season is in high gear across much of Spokane. Crews started work this week on Jefferson Street from Wellesley to Rowan in North Spokane.

Some surrounding streets are currently blocked off, which is making for a bit of a traffic headache for some neighbors.

Darren McCrea has lived in that area for years. Just a few days ago, he woke up to see traffic signs spread throughout his neighborhood.

“We don’t have any parking spaces out here, and so we can’t get any visitors,” he said.
Crews are rehabilitating Adams, Madison and Jefferson. Residents not have to use alleys to gain access to their own homes. And with heavy traffic utilizing the main roads nearby, McCrea isn’t looking forward to a nearby backup either.

“A lot of my friends are disabled, so it’s gong to be a real inconvenience for them.”

The city hopes to improve the area’s storm water drainage system. Contractors also plan to install ADA ramps at intersections. Until the work is done, neighbors are taking detours. They call it the price to pay.

“I think if you’re going to want to have a nice neighborhood, these are things you’re going to have to go through,” neighbor Jeremy Cummings said.
