SPOKANE -- A North Spokane family and their neighbors are thanking the Spokane Police Department for finding their stolen property so quickly Wednesday.

David Staley, who lives near Atlantic and Indiana, told KREM 2 News he woke up Wednesday to find someone kicked in his garage door and stole about $15,000 in recreational vehicles and equipment from him.

Staley said that his 11-year-old son was personally hurt by the theft because they stole his favorite dirt bike.

"That was his main prize possession, that dirt bike meant a lot to him," said Staley.

Staley said he called police, who responded to his home within minutes. Staley says he, officers and neighbors began searching the neighborhood and found little pieces of the items on the street and in alleys. That's when someone saw the boy's dirt bike through a backyard fence.

Officers found loads of stolen property in the backyard, including what was stolen from Staley, car parts

No arrests have been made; the suspect apparently was not home at the time officers made the discovery, and is only temporarily staying at the home where the property was found.

"These guys are wonderful," said Staley. "Thank you to city officers, thank you to their sergeants."
