Lincoln County Plane Crash
LINCOLN COUNTY, Wash. -- People miles from the Lincoln County crash scene describe feeling their houses shake, believing an earthquake hit their area.
HaLee Walter was on the phone in her home when the boom got her attention.
“All of sudden, the whole house shook. Just a loud boom,” she said.
Walter hung up the phone to call her husband.
“Did you hear that? Did you feel that? He said I think an airplane just went down. He said we just saw a huge plume of smoke north of the house.”
Walter then stepped outside and saw the billowing clouds coming up from the ground. She has property near where the crash happened, so she drove six miles in that direction to see what happened.
“You could see smoke there at the time. There were a few pieces of debris, but you couldn’t really see anything else. Everything was gone.”
Walter says she’s used to seeing military planes fly overhead training, and this saddens her.
“Just so sad for the families. Obviously there were three people in there, and all of those families-- It’s just unfortunate.”
