SPOKANE -- A woman living in west Spokane believes she would not be alive today if it weren't for the quick actions of her neighbor.
Last Friday evening, Ella Mae Galston began to choke on shrimp and could not breathe. She stumbled next door and was able to knock a couple times before she nearly collapsed. Her neighbor, Jerome Grimes, performed the Heimlich maneuver as well as artificial respiration.
"I felt good. She called me a hero. I think that's a little bit too much. I'm glad that I could help," said Grimes.
After trying the Heimlich at least seven times, the food finally dislodged. Moments later, paramedics arrived but Galston was O.K.
