KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho.—Skilled horse-back riders filled the Kootenai County Fairgrounds Saturday for the Northwest Regional Shoot.

Competitors, carrying two guns each, rode their horses through an obstacle course while shooting at balloon targets.

“You're going fast, you're running, there is a lot going on,” explained cowgirl Courtney Johnson. “You have to change your gun, you have to cock the hammer every time, pull the trigger. You have to go left, right, you’re turning, you’re slowing down, speeding up.”

Participants also dressed in outfits inspired by the Old West.
