SAINT MARIES, ID-- Questions are being raised after the public did not find out about an escaped inmate from Benewah County Jail until days later.

Authorities confirmed early Tuesday Jesse John Wilkenson aka Brebner, a convicted burglar, escaped last Friday from the Benewah County Jail and is believed to be in the Spokane or Coeur d’Alene areas.

The Saint Maries Gazette Record posted the breaking news to their facebook page and sent an e-mail bulletin to subscribers after the inmate’s mother called them with a tip Tuesday.

According to the paper, they received a phone call Friday evening from a woman saying her son had escaped from jail.

The woman asked the reporter to let her comment if they did a story, and to say she’d love for him to come home.

Brebner fled down the fire escape while being escorted to the jail library and has not been found.
Brebner is serving time for a parole violation on a burglary conviction.
The sheriff says he didn't put out a notification because he does not consider Brebner dangerous.
According to a spokesperson from the Idaho Department Of Corrections, the Benewah County Sheriff's Office contacted their records department on Friday. They said the information did not make it to the proper supervisors.

Police are asking anyone with information on Brebner’s location to contact them.
