COLBERT, Wash. -- Midway Elementary School 4th graders are learning real-life lessons about building a business.
A class of fourth graders are selling lollipops, bookmarks and mystery rock to their classmates and donate the money to the American Cancer Society.
The children even have a business plan including marketing and advertising. They've also done an expense and profit return.
Their teacher, Hia Cong, says some of the items are selling out.
"He sold out. I think 44 mystery rocks on the first day. We had to go home and find more treasures and artifacts to put in there," saif Cong.
Shayle Billings sells the custom-made bookmarks and she says business is good.
"I decided on 75 cents because it's not too much and it's not too little," said Billings.
Student, Tyson Degenhart made the business plan and he said most of his workers are volunteers.
So far, the students have raised more than $500. The experience has also helped the class academically. The class had 3 of the top 10 finishers out of 30 schools in last week's math competition.
