COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Family, friends, and community members came together Saturday to remember two hometown heroes.
Sgt. Nathan Beyers and Spc. Nicholas Newby died after an improvised explosion device detonated in Baghdad. The men were remembered as great friends and hard-working soldiers who loved their family.
A full house packed Lake City Community Church for Saturday’s memorial service. People even spilled outside to show their respects.
Loved ones created slide shows of photographs of the men set to music.
Friends who served with Beyers and Newby spoke at the service, along with other members of the Idaho National Guard.
Both soldiers were honored with a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, and many more distinctions.
Individual services will take place Sunday and Monday in Spokane for Sgt. Beyers. Specialist Newby's funeral is set for Monday at Lake City Community Church.
Sergeant Beyers will be cremated and laid to rest Tuesday at the Washington State Veterans cemetery
