COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho -- The clock is ticking. With the opening of McEuen Park set for May, the general contractor for the $20 million park reconstruction project recently expanded its work schedule to include Saturdays and Sundays. That schedule will continue until the park is complete.

“We’re going to get as many people out there as we can (on weekends),” said Bryan Taylor, president of Contractors Northwest, Inc.
Weekend work will include landscape grading, concrete and structural work.
Meanwhile, the last section of sidewalk on the north side of Front Avenue along Fifth Street is nearly complete. The sidewalk will open March 24, opening up 20 angled parking spots along that block. Angle parking on Front has been popular, with most spots filled during the day.
Also on Monday, motorists on Lakeside Avenue downtown will be detoured around Third Street while street upgrades are made as part of the McEuen Park/Front Avenue reconstruction project.

The work will transform Third Street into a two-way arterial between Front Avenue and Lakeside Avenue. Currently Third Street is one-way southbound along that two-block stretch. East-west traffic on Lakeside will be rerouted to Sherman Avenue or Coeur d’Alene Avenue at Second and Fifth streets.
The project, which includes sidewalk, street and signalization work, will last five days and Lakeside will re-open Friday afternoon.
