SPOKANE – Spokane Mayor David Condon returned from a trip to visit the home cities of the finalists for SPD Chief.
In a statement, Condon said “We came away even more impressed with the qualifications of our two candidates. Spokane and its citizens will be well-served by either of these two excellent choices. The final selection will be difficult.”
The two finalists for the position are:
Daniel Mahoney, Commanding Officer with the San Francisco Police Department, Ingleside District
Frank Straub, Director of Public Safety for the City of Indianapolis
Condon said he remains on track to make a decision on a new chief by the end of the month. City leaders are working on final background checks for each man.
Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich sat on an interview panel that does not think either candidate should be the next chief. The panel recommended the Mayor start the search over from scratch earlier this month.
