NEAR MATTAWA, Wash. -- Grant County authorities are investigating a man's body found floating in the Columbia River.
Around 2:30 p.m., Thursday, citizens called emergency dispatchers after finding a body floating in the Columbia River east of the Vernita (State Route 24) Bridge. The body was spotted about 10 miles south of Mattawa. Other witnesses told investigators the man had been seen earlier that afternoon with a kayak.
Detectives have found no evidence of foul play. They believe they know who the man is but have not released his name. The Grant County Coroner has custody of the body and will determine the cause and manner of death.
