SAINT MARIES, Idaho -- Authorities confirmed on Monday that they are investigating an attempted murder and a suicide.
Kurt McGreal tried to kill his wife on Sunday by cutting her throat and leaving her in their car one mile from home according to the Benewah County Sheriff. He said the man then walked home and killed himself.
Authorities searched the crime scene along Aspen Lane just south of Saint Maries. They are looking for the weapon the husband may have used during the attack. The weapons is believed to be a combination axe and knife tool.
Search dogs are sniffing out Kurt's steps from his car from where he left the car back to the couple's house.
The Sheriff said that Mary McGreal is satisfactory condition despite having her throat cut. She was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The husband allegedly tried to set the house on fire before he shot himself in the head and cut himself several times according to authorities. Deputies said McGreal did not leave a suicide note.
