GRANGEVILLE, Idaho—It appears a man whose body was found Saturday south of Grangeville took his own life, according to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities have identified him as 64 year old Gerald Wayne Schetzle. He was also known as Wayne Shannon during his television journalism career.

Shannon was a reporter in the San Francisco area in the 1980s when he worked for KRON-TV. He also began working at CNBC in 1989 and had recently been living in Lewiston.

His body was discovered Saturday by a pair of turkey hunters on a property near White Bird, and at the time investigators believed it had been there for several months.

The medical examiner completed an autopsy on May 1 and did not find any signs of physical trauma. Toxicology results are pending.
Schetzle’s family has arranged a memorial service for him on May 8 at 1:00 p.m. at Airport Park in Lewiston.
