SPOKANE, Wash. -- Police took a man into custody Thursday night after a standoff at a home in the Logan neighborhood.
According to authorities, officers responded to reports of a man with a gun outside a home around 9 p.m. on N. Perry St., near Montgomery Ave.
Investigators said officers arrived on scene and quickly determined the incident stemmed from a domestic violence assault involving a female inside the residence. By the time officers arrived, the suspect, Brian M. Drake, 42, had gone back inside the house, police said. Police also said the female victim and another occupant of the residence were able to get out of the house and away from Drake.
Officers determined they had enough information to arrest Drake, but he refused to come outside, according to SPD. Officials said after about 45 minutes of negotiating with him, Drake surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities said officers executed a search warrant on the house and found the firearm and ammunition.
Drake has one previous felony conviction for 2nd Degree Theft and was prohibited from having a firearm. He was booked into Spokane County Jail on charges of City Assault-Domestic Violence and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
Drake was scheduled to be in court Friday afternoon.
