SPOKANE--A local war veteran is preparing to visit the foreign country he fought to protect more than 60 years ago.
Korean War veteran Ron Thomsen will take a special trip to South Korea with his wife. It’s all part of the “Re-visit Korea Tour”, which invites veterans for a week long stay in the country as a way to thank them for their service.
The vets get to tour historical landmarks and learn about South Korean culture. It will also be a chance for Ron to connect with other war veterans.
He says this opportunity is a reminder that his service is not forgotten. Although the Korean War was a dark time in Ron's life, he says being recognized for his service is something he will always remember.
After the Re-Visit Korea Tour, Ron and his wife will continue their travels with stops in Beijing and Shanghai.
