SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- The Spokane Valley City Council faced a packed house on Tuesday night to hear public comments about controversial nearly-nude baristas.

Staff members of the City had to check to see if the room was above capacity because the turnout was so large. People packed the hallway and others listened in and watched through windows.

A local family group called Coalition of Community Values spoke out against the baristas.

"Under the codes [the coffee stands are] operating as an adult entertainment establishment," said parent Jennifer Lamoreaux.  "It needs to be relocated to a place where there are not children who have access to this.”

The meeting began at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and public comments were scheduled at the beginning of the meeting. The City Council did not have anything on their specific agenda regarding the controversial coffee shops.

"It's a benefit to the city and the council to have information about the Spokane Valley," said Mayor Tom Towey. "I would like to hear all the testimony tonight and then have a dialogue."

Upset parents said they wanted to see a change, especially regarding the XXX Espresso stand’s topless Tuesday and Thursdays.

City leaders said they would have a better idea on how to move forward with the issue by the end of the week.

No supporters of the nearly-nude baristas were present at the public hearing.
