SPOKANE, Wash. -- It's been one month since H&M opened up in the Spokane Valley Mall. Hundreds lined up for the opening, but not everyone was so eager to see the red tape cut.
Locally owned boutiques like Fringe on the South Hill depend on local customers to keep going. Owner Tiffany Palmer said instead of worrying about the new guy in town, they'll continue to focus on keeping shoppers happy.
"Competition is a good thing," said Susie Herliekson. "I don't think any of the local businesses are afraid of that. We have very loyal buyers."
Shops told KREM they haven't seen a dip in sales. They are working harder to attract new customers through new promotions and Facebook.
