SPOKANE -- Law enforcement sources say letters containing white powder that showed up at federal offices across the Northwest Monday were mailed from Spokane Valley, as indicated by their return addresses.
A source who saw one of the letters that was delivered locally told KREM 2 News the letter contained only a paragraph, which included a rant about the U.S. economy and financial situation, and identified the Federal Reserve, the FBI and IRS.
Monday, envelopes containing a letter and white powder were mailed to the Federal Courthouse in Coeur d'Alene, and the FBI Offices in Coeur d'Alene and Spokane.
They appear to be the same letter copied over and over. Frank Harrill with the Spokane FBI says it is likely more of these letters will pop up over the next few days.
Samples of the white powder were sent to the Spokane Regional Health District for testing and turned out to be non-toxic.
Other letters were delivered to federal offices in Seattle, Bellevue, Boise, Pocatello and Salt Lake City.
The FBI tells KREM 2 News it is possible other cities will receive similar letters today.
Samples collected from other locations indicate the powder was not hazardous.
