SPOKANE, Wash-- The developer of Spokane’s Kendall Yards neighborhood released new plans for a park along Centennial Trail.

The park would accomplish a goal set by the Olmsted brothers in 1908 to have a park near an urban neighborhood in the city.

The neighborhood developer, Greenstone, posted outlines for the Olmsted Park, named after those brothers.

People out walking Centennial trail said they were excited for the changes in months to come.

“They could definitely use more parks in the area, especially when they’ve got all of this open area,” said Sandra Vandouris who lives near the park.

The park would also help the City of Spokane keep stormwater out of the nearby river.

The developer planned to put an underground tank to remove stormwater under the park and a rain garden to spread water to plants and into the ground.

Longtime members said the park was just one of the recent improvements to the area that they were excited about.

The developer planned to open the park during the summer and complete it before 2015.
