SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. -- A Spokane County Deputy and his K9 partner tracked down a reckless driver who crashed his car into a ditch early Sunday morning.
A deputy patrolling the area of Yale and Woolard Road saw a car traveling northbound on Yale going almost 100 miles per hour. The deputy tried to stop the car at Big Meadows and Yale Road after the car failed to stop at a stop sign.
Officials say the car passed another car in a no-passing zone and was later found in a ditch on the north side of the 6400 block of East Elk-Chattaroy.
Two people were found in the car uninjured and the driver, Vyacheslav Kostenyuk, 27, fled the scene.
Another deputy and his K9 partner Laslo responded to the scene and tracked Kostenyuk and found him about a mile away.
Authorities say Kostenyuk was released by medics and asked one of the deputies to get his phone from the car. The deputy was not able to find the phone but did find a bag of a white crystalline substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Kostenyuk was booked for felony eluding and additional charges are expected.
