SPOKANE--Interest keeps going up for Hoopfest but space for adding courts is not. So this year, organizers may come closer than ever to reaching capacity for the number of teams.
Hoopfest had a little more than 7,000 teams last year and it was tight for organizers to give everyone a spot.
This year, registration is already 10% higher compared to the same point in 2011. More than 2,000 teams signed up between Friday and Monday morning.
Organizers say no matter how many people they get registered Monday, they would find a way to make room. For now, they expect to be slightly higher than last year's turnout and they’ll be able to work with their current number of courts around downtown.
Staff saw plenty of people in their office Monday as well as high traffic online. Early Monday evening a few thousand had already visited spokanehoopfest.net before staff left for the night.
Starting Tuesday, they'll keep taking teams until May 21st, unless they run out of room first.
The deadline for a guaranteed spot is Monday, May 7th at midnight.
