SPOKANE, Wash.--A Spokane homeowner was left with thousands of dollars in damage after an intruder smashed one of his windows and kicked through his ceiling. The intruder cut himself in the process and left blood throughout the home. KREM 2 News wanted to know who would pay for that mess.

Police said Kenneth Mott was running from police when he tried to hide out in a home. A pit bull and police were on Mott’s tail.

“He went into this closet, tried to climb up into the attic, then into my bedroom,” said a homeowner.

That homeowner asked not to be identified. The victim said Mott was not done with his destruction.

“SMASH! It was like out of a movie,” said the homeowner. “He kicked out the screen window...there were cops through the front yard. He tried to jump into the tree.”

Witnesses said the extent of the damage was overwhelming and disgusting. They said the suspect cut up his arm.

The homeowner said the cleaning bill and repairs would reach the thousands.

“We already had someone come in and clean up the glass. He's a drug addict. There were needles all over. I won’t touch anyone's blood,” said the homeowner.

The homeowner said the home did have good insurance but there was a deductible that needed to be met.

Officials said if Mott was convicted of the crime then victim advocates would push to make sure payment for the damage was one of the first things on his punishment list. Officials said victims could be out of that money for years.
